The New Moccamaster KBG Select

For our first review of 2020, we decided to collab with abcoffee and bring you the Moccamaster select review.

The new Moccamaster KBG Select is based on the iconic Moccamaster KBG. The biggest difference between the regular KBG and the KBG Select is the switch on the front. With the help of this new selector switch, it is possible to easily optimize the brewing time for a full or half jug.

The throughput speed and extraction time will be extended when the half jug mode is chosen. The result is an aromatic cup of coffee with a full taste, regardless of the smaller quantity.

A Smart Upgrade

Having the ability to choose the quantity of coffee you want to brew, is not the only new feature in the new Moccamaster KBG Select.

Next to the switch, the outlet pipe has been renewed as well. It now has 9 holes that really trigger the water drips to all over the coffee grounds in the filter for an even better extraction of the coffee.

This new model has an intelligent hotplate that measures the amount of coffee in the jug to keep it on the right temperature, up to 100 minutes, between 176º and 185º F (80 / 85º C).

Last but not least, the Moccamaster Select features an automatic drip-stop brew-basket that stops the flow of coffee if the carafe is pulled away.

Perfectly Brewed Coffee

Easily the best part of this unit is the taste of its coffee. As a fully automated unit, you won’t have to go through the process of learning how to use the pour-over technique yourself. Which will result in a perfect brewed coffee every time you use it.

The Moccamaster KBG Select brews the coffee at 196° – 205°F (92º – 96ºC) witch results in a less sour or bitter taste. At this temperature, the water dissolves the aromatic oils resulting in an ideal balance between sweet and bitter. Since the coffee is extracted at such a high temperature, a lot more of the flavor profile is brought out, giving more depth to the brew.

Another great feature of this unit is the brewing time. The KBG Select is one of the fastest coffee machines out there, as it can brew a whole pot in around six minutes. Even competitors in the same price range can take an extra two minutes to brew a pot of coffee. Making the Moccamaster an excellent choice if you’re always rushing in the mornings.
