In this week’s equipment review, we are back with one of the stylish brands on the market: Smeg. In this Smeg Electric Kettle Review, we’ll take a closer look at one high-end appliance that they have to offer!

The Smeg KFL04 features the 1950s retro-futuristic design for which the brand is renowned, matching the aesthetic of all other appliances like fridges, toasters, and coffee machines.

The Same DNA

Beyond looks, the Smeg KFL04 offers the same great performances as other models of the Smeg lineage.

This particular model allows you to adjust the temperature to your liking, provided it’s between 50ºC and 100ºC. With Variable temperature settings available you will be able to make a wide range of drinks. To choose between temperatures you simply need to move the lever on the side to the left and right. Using this kettle couldn’t be more simple because all the buttons are located alongside the temperature lever. On the left side you’ll find the power button, and on the right is the keep-warm button.

The keep-warm function is another very nice feature that we really like. As the name suggests, this mode will keep your water hot for a long period of time. Basically it will reheat your water, maintaining your chosen temperature for up to 20 minutes. The only con of this function is that it can only be activated during the heating process. You won’t be able to activate this function after the water reaches the selected temperature.

Right above these buttons and behind the handle you will find clear markings at 0.5l, 1l, 1.5l, and 1.7l (MAX), with two further quarter-liter increments marked by simple lines.

Solid Performance

Now going a little deep in this review, let’s talk about performance. This unit has an average time to boil just under 3 minutes which is fast, but when compared with some top models on the market, we realize that it takes a slightly longer. However in our opinion, under 3 minutes to boil 1.7L of water is more than acceptable. In terms of accuracy, this unit produces accurate results, with a variation around 2ºC.

Another feature that performs very well in the Smeg KFL04 is the keep-warm function. This function really comes in handy when we need to make multiple things at the same time, making it perfect for when we are preparing a brunch. Besides that, having this function means that there is less variation, which is important for making a perfect cup of tea or coffee.

Last but not least, another easy and cool feature is the lid, that opens at the touch of a button, making the filling process super easy and fast.
