Innovative System

If you are a coffee enthusiast or a professional barista we don’t need to tell you how important a scale is! For us, using a coffee scale is now part of our everyday life. It is true that you can make a cup of coffee without a scale, but if you are looking for consistency you will definitely need one.

The Brewista Ratio Scale is slightly more advanced than the average weighing scales. Its innovative system allows you to make perfect pour over coffee by pacing the amount of water to pour. The scale automatically calculates the water needed based on the amount of coffee grounds used and chosen ratio. It also has a display that features dual timing bars that show you the actual and desired pour rates. Matching the timing bars achieves the recommended pour time.

The Ratio Scale is a great training tool for baristas and coffee lovers alike that want to get their pour over coffee always right. With two modes (automatic or the fully manual), and with the ability to adjust the water to grounds ratios, everyone will be able to customize their own cup of coffee. Built from durable food-safe plastic, with silicone no-slip pads, as well as the weighing platform, ensuring your gear doesn’t slide away accidentally. Besides this, the scale is coated with a water-resistant nano-coating that’ll keep things safe for years.

What Is The Brew Ratio?

The selling points of this scale is the ability to calculate the brew ratio, which is the relationship between the amount of dry coffee and the amount of water. So a ratio of 1:2 means that for every gram of ground coffee, you will use two grams of water. Doing these maths could look simple, but when we are talking about larger ratios things can get a little complicated. This means that sometimes it is hard to quickly calculate brew ratios without getting your phone out or use a calculator.

With the Brewista Ratio Scale you don’t need to do these maths, it will tell you exactly how much water is needed to brew coffee with the amount of beans you’ve weighed. This feature is particularly useful when you are a gram or two off what you intended to brew or when you want to change coffee recipes quickly. The best part of this feature is that you can choose between 7 pre-set ratios, ranging from 1:14 to 1:20. The same ratios that are recommended by the Speciality Coffee Association.

Another great feature about this scale is that you can charge it with USB which makes it super convenient. There is also a battery icon that shows you how much power it has left, so you know when to charge it. You don’t need to buy batteries all the time, and the environment will thank you!

Using The Ratio Scale

Although this scale was designed to facilitate the brewing process, you will need to take some time to get used to it. In our first tries we end up with frustrating results, but after a while, we start to understand the mechanism and we could start seeing the light at the bottom of the tunnel.

In Auto mode, the scale has an auto-tare function that knows when it’s time to measure your coffee or water, reducing the number of buttons you have to press. As soon as you place your vessel on the Ratio Scale, it will auto tare. Enter your desired brew ratio, then the scale will weigh the coffee and tell you the precise amount of water to add. As soon as you start your brew, the scale will measure the brew time and give live feedback to let you know if you’re pouring a little too fast or too slow.

When the weight of the added water is almost at the reach the screen begins to flash. This means that you are close to the final amount of water needed. The downside of this feature, is that becomes annoying after the first flashes, and the worse is that while the screen is flashing it is difficult to read the numbers on the screen.

At The End Of Brewista Ratio Scale Review

The Brewista Ratio Scale offers more than the average scale, it’s a brewing companion designed to make brewing with consistency and precision easier than ever. Despite having a manual mode, it’s the smart features that make this system stand out. Featuring auto measurements and ratio calculations, as well as a real-time pouring guide, it’s one of the smartest scales you can find on the market.

Summary

Although you will need to take some time to get used to the Brewista Ratio Scale, if you want to make the perfect cup of coffee every time, or if you want to become a better brewer this system will help you reach your targets.
